Finding out your favorite author’s newest book is coming out in just a month is always a cause for celebration. Today I am tossing confetti after learning from my mom that Kate Morton’s newest comes out in October, a mere month away. Ever since The House at Riverton I’ve been a devotee of this amazing Australian writer. I can’t wait to read “The Secret-Keeper” and will pre-order in hardback; no Kindle for this one.
It’s interesting to me how the cover evolves for the different international markets. The US version will bear the top cover to keep it consistent Kate’s brand here in the states. The second one is the Australian version, which I really, really like. The third one is the British version. Got a favorite? Here’s the premise in a nutshell:
1961: On a sweltering summer’s day, while her family picnics by the stream on their Suffolk farm, sixteen-year-old Laurel hides out in her childhood tree house dreaming of a boy called Billy, a move to London, and the bright future she can’t wait to seize. But before the idyllic afternoon is over, Laurel will have witnessed a shocking crime that changes everything.
2011: Now a much-loved actress, Laurel finds herself overwhelmed by shades of the past. Haunted by memories, and the mystery of what she saw that day, she returns to her family home and begins to piece together a secret history. A tale of three strangers from vastly different worlds–Dorothy, Vivien and Jimmy–who are brought together by chance in wartime London and whose lives become fiercely and fatally entwined…

I'm a little late to be offering an opinion. I love Kate Morton, too! While the US cover is more consistent with her US brand, I would pick up the UK cover without even knowing the author. Very appealing.
Which cover? Oh! The hat, the burgundy. What? this is not the American brand? It needs to be. The first is too sweet and same, not for me.
The UK one in a heartbeat. The US one is so … meh.
So glad to learn more about ANOTHER terrific book I have to add to my TBR stack. Fave: I want to visit the location of no. 1, but fave cover is 2, definitely.
Thanks, Sooz.
I finally read “The House at Riverton.” Wow. So so good.
