Pretend it’s Friday. . .

Today is Photo Phriday on Monday. These are the pictures I was going to post on Friday but then I had that mind-bending encounter at the Fair and the photos were pre-empted. I am a big fan of cactii and succulents. They are the most amazing plants. Hearty and delicate, impressive and stoic, ready to defend, ready to nourish. My husband and I planted a new garden behind the house recently and here are the new friends who make their home there. Enjoy . . .

Should you go to Arizona and you have time for a day trip stop by the Boyce Thompson Arboretum, just outside of Superior, AZ. It is amazing in the spring. It has every cactus you have ever heard of and many you haven’t. It's like summertime in wonderland when it's in bloom.

Okay, seeing the first photo–which looks like a hen and chicks among dogwood blossoms–finally got me. Cactii and succulents can be intriguing, but I generally find them my least favorite type of garden. Your photo #1 invites me to change my mind… but not quite. To my eye and heart nothing can replace a a boisterous, swaying English country garden, or rows of roses, or even the ferny, redwood rainforest of the northwest. But I am glad God made so many feasts for our eyes and senses; and that you have a new garden full of your favorites.

    Thanks for the buffet.
    Blessings,
    Mary Kay

PS You have the best word verifications I've seen. Mine is “factshoe.”
