Astaire + Powell = Amazing
So I am researching a new novel, which I plan to set in the golden years of Hollywood, and I came across this video of Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell dancing their way through a song that I’d only ever heard before on The Rocketeer, (sung fantastically by Melora Hardin who played quirky, flawed Jan on The Office. ) And I fell in love.
I’m not a dancer, though I wish I was. Have always wished I was. In my non-existent spare time I dream of taking lessons but what I really want is the Trinity/helicopter scene in The Matrix. Remember when she needs to learn how to fly a helicopter? One quick download into her brain, and bam! She’s flying it, in a hail of bullets no less.
Since that won’t happen any time soon, I will content myself with watching videos like this one, when dancing was still in the movies, and it was filmed in soft tones with a big band sound and swishy dresses and starched tuxedos and Fred Astaire actually looked quite handsome. Don’t you just love it? Tell me you do…
